What a Small Business Website Should Cost, and What You Should Get

Kanyi Mwangi

You already run a small business, and you do not have a website yet. Customers find you through social media, referrals and word of mouth, and that has worked. Now you are wondering whether a website is worth paying for, and the quotes you have seen look nothing alike.

That is a fair question, and it is easier to answer once you know why the prices differ.

Why the quotes do not match

Quotes often price different things under the same word, “website”:

  • One includes writing your pages and finding photos. Another assumes you will supply them.
  • One adapts a ready-made layout. Another designs from nothing.
  • One includes help after launch. Another stops on the day the site goes live.
  • One includes your domain, hosting and business email. Another leaves them for you to find.

A low quote and a high quote can both be honest. They are usually quotes for different jobs.

What you should get

If customers already find you on social media, a website should add what social media does not do well:

  • One place for your work, services and prices, not scattered across posts.
  • Answers to the questions you get every day, so you can send a link instead of replying again.
  • A way to take enquiries that suits how you work.
  • A way to be found when someone searches for what you sell.

It should also be yours, on your own domain. If a quote does not leave you with these, ask what it does include.

What small businesses usually pay

Agencies in Kenya publish prices for small businesses from about KES 30,000 up to about KES 300,000, and a few advertise entry prices as low as KES 10,000 (checked October 2026). Where you land depends on who writes the content, how custom the design is, and what the site has to do.

These are asking prices, not what clients paid, so treat them as a guide to the range, not as a quote for your business.

Start with your situation

Every business is different, and the best next step is not another quote. It is a short conversation about where your business is now and what you want your website to do for it.

Tell us about your business and what you want your website to do. The questions take a few minutes, and your answers help us have a useful conversation with you. Answering does not commit you to anything.

Not ready yet?

If you are still comparing companies, how to choose a web design company in Kenya shows you how to check a designer in about fifteen minutes and what is usually missing from a quote.
